What is Lean?

Lean can be defined as elimination of waste. In manufacturing term, it can be list as below:
  • Eliminate waste in the process. Process can be anything.
  • Full based production system.
  • One piece flow.
  • Value stream mapping.
  • Set up time reduction.
  • Flexible Work cells.
Waste can be:
  • Overproduction
  • Waiting
  • Unnecessary transport
  • Over processing
  • Excessive inventory
  • Unnecessary movement
  • Defects
Lean is different from Six Sigma. Six Sigma is all bout quality of product & services while lean is all about waste reduction. Both add plus point to business by reducing cost.
